The much awaited 2015 choral Festival organized by the Forum for the Inculturation of Liturgical Music (FILM) begins today at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State. It ends on 26 September, 2015.
FILM
was founded on March 18, 1995 by Prof. Geoffery O. Anoliefo of the
University of Benin with the kind permission of the then Archbishop of
Benin, the Most Revd. Patrick E. Ekpu. It is a sacred music forum
comprising choirs of Catholic Chaplaincies/Parishes in Nigerian
Universities.
It's objectives includes:
i.
To engage the youths [of the Catholic Church] in constructive research
on our Nigerian indigenous cultural music, leveraging on the research
findings to develop congregational music for the Catholic liturgy.
ii. To propagate Marian music, as well as re-kindle the interest of the youth in the [singing of] Latin chants of the Church.
iii. To promote ethno-cultural tolerance and unity among our people.
FILM
is a Biennial Indigenous Music Festival in which participating choirs
perform original works showcasing the cultural heritage of their
locales, and those of other related cultures.
It is a double celebration as FILM celebrates 10th edition, and 20th Anniversary of its existence.
